Anyone can report suspected modern slavery in Australia. If you or someone you know is not safe, or it is an emergency, phone Triple Zero (000) and ask to speak to the police. You can ask for help even if you are not sure your situation is modern slavery.

Report to the Australian Federal Police

The Australian Federal Police is Australia’s lead agency for investigating human trafficking and other modern slavery crimes.

Website: AFP or make a report online. Any information you provide will be kept confidential. If you are making a report for someone else, make sure they agree to sharing their information (unless mandatory reporting obligations apply).

What happens next

During a modern slavery investigation, a specialist investigator will meet with you to explain the process and what may happen next. The investigator will also consider your eligibility to access Government-funded support for people affected by modern slavery (see Support services). They will prioritise your safety and wellbeing during this process and will respect your privacy, preferences and decisions regarding the investigation.
