Australia's response

Addressing modern slavery at home and overseas.

Australia is actively working to prevent and respond to all forms of modern slavery, wherever they occur. This includes protecting, supporting and empowering people experiencing or at risk of modern slavery.

Australia is committed to a future where no one experiences modern slavery and the human rights of all people are respected equally.

How Australia is responding to modern slavery

Australia’s response to modern slavery includes strong criminal, workplace, migration and supply chain transparency laws, as well as dedicated strategies and plans.

Australia works to prevent modern slavery, including by raising awareness and addressing global drivers. We disrupt modern slavery when it does happen by removing victims from harm and holding offenders to account.

Support and protection for victims and survivors is a key part of Australia’s response to modern slavery. This includes government-funded support programs, visa support and protections, courtroom support and protections, and compensation and remedies.

Australia’s response to modern slavery involves collaboration with a wide range of stakeholders, including people who have experienced modern slavery, governments, business, civil society, the broader community, and international partners.

The Australian Anti-Slavery Commissioner is a new and independent pillar in Australia’s response to modern slavery, complementing work across government, business and civil society to prevent and respond to modern slavery.
